When Progress Actually Means Going Backwards - Continued
I picked up that latest issue of the Sun Cruiser magazine and found some interesting ads in it regarding the "proposed" development in Old Town Bay. What a mess!! The development takes up the entire bay, that's the easiest way to put it. In fact, the marina/moorage goes out so far into the bay it almost reaches the Eagle River and will cut off any access the public used to have to the beaches in that area. That meeting we went to when we spoke with the Mayor clearly shows that she knew exactly what they were proposing all along. The reason she mentioned to us "they may be looking at deep water moorage or something" is the fact that that is exactly what is proposed, and they will plug up the entire bay with that operation! I can't believe that our local District and Government has allowed this to go ahead, it is very similar to the proposed marina that was just quashed over at the Adams River.

The above pic was taken from the developers website,
www.oldtownbay.com, and it clearly shows
how far the marina goes out. And, just remember that this isn't just for
power boats but for houseboats as well. One can only imagine the mess of
boats that will be coming out of this bay into the open lake, and all in a major
fish spawning and bird sanctuary area.
This picture from the same site shows a pristine bay with beaches and no boats around, but thrown a couple hundred boats out there and it certainly won't be looking like this! Whoever allowed this property to be bought up by the developers screwed up big time. The entire area should have been either bought up the the local District and made into a park (instead of spending the 4 million or so they want on a new City Hall!) or else the Government should have bought it up and made a Provincial Park out of it, focusing on the bird sanctuary and spawning fish habitat. Its the old adage, money talks and bulls@$&! walks! We've been sold out people!
